Museums Director shares update concerning fire transportation museum repairs

After it was damaged by harsh winds in 2023, work toward repairing the Woody Winfree Fire Transportation Museum in downtown Hopkinsville continues.

The museum opened in 2008 in the old city fire station that was built in 1905. It includes old firefighting vehicles and equipment. On March 31, 2023 straight-line winds resulted in damages to the museum and a few other buildings in downtown Hopkinsville.

At Thursday’s Hopkinsville Kiwanis Club meeting, Museums Director Alissa Keller shared that the wind blew out a part of the museum’s wall, knocked windows out and damaged the clock tower.

The Local Development Corporation owns the building and Keller says together they have been working diligently toward completing repairs, but have run into roadblocks concerning insurance.

Keller says the repair process has been slow, but they are making progress. More information about the local museums is available at museumsofhopkinsville.org.
