Martin Luther King Jr. Day brought the return of a friendly competition this year, as area students entered their art pieces into the MLK Day Art Contest.
The participants were celebrated in a presentation at the Alhambra Theatre Monday following the MLK Day annual program and before the Fisk Jubilee Singers took the stage in the afternoon. There were four age groups, starting with Pre-K through second graders and going all the way through seniors in high schools.
The winners in each category were:
Pre-K – 2nd Grade
1st Place : Everett Coffey, Pembroke Elementary, 2nd grade
2nd Place: Robert Davenport, Sinking Fork Elementary, 2nd grade
3rd Place: Lexi Chambers, Pembroke Elementary, 1st grade
3rd Grade – 5th Grade
1st Place: Amani Williams, Pembroke Elementary, 5th grade
2nd Place: Kenzi Brown, Indian Hills Elementary, 5th grade
3rd Place: Miracle McGee, Sinking Fork Elementary, 3rd grade
6th Grade – 8th Grade
1st Place: Ryan Becker, CCMS, 6th grade
2nd Place: Payton Arwine, CCMS, 8th grade
9th Grade – 12th Grade
1st Place: Reyna Price, CCHS, 12th grade
2nd Place: Jasmine Beckwith, CCHS, 12th grade
3rd Place: Brittan Joiner, CCHS, 12th grade
