Miller becomes 1st CCHS female wrestler to earn state bid

Christian County High School’s Avah Miller qualified for the KHSAA Girls’ State Wrestling Tournament with a third-place performance Saturday at the Region 1 Tournament at Union County High School.

Miller became the first female wrestler from Christian County High School to advance to the state meet. She won three matches, including two by pin, to finish third place in the 165-pound division.

“It’s really cool for Avah to be able to say that she is the first County girls’ state qualifier and it will be awesome if she gets to say she’s the first state medalist as well,” Head Coach Dison Myers said.

Rhyn Traham went 4-2 and finished fifth in the 126-pound division and will head to state as an alternate.

Kira Caldwell finished sixth place at 185 pounds.

“All the girls wrestled very tough today,” Myers said. “A couple of them just came up short. Rhyn came in as the 12 seed and took out the 7, 3, and 4 seeds. In the fifth-place match, she pinned the No. 4 seed in 29 seconds.

“I am very proud of all the girls,” Myers continued. “Kira closed out her career as a three-time Region place winner and is a trailblazer of the girls’ wrestling program at Christian County High School.”

John Hardin won the team title with 170 points, followed by North Hardin with 157.5 points. Fort Campbell was sixth with 96 points. Trigg County finished eighth with 77.5 points, followed by Caldwell County with 77.

The Lady Colonels took 16th place with 41 points and Hopkinsville was 19th with 24.
