The Interim Director of Micah Mission shared how the local nonprofit is working to help those less fortunate by providing free meals and resources as well as how the community can help them continue their work at Thursday’s Kiwanis Club meeting.
Micah Mission is a faith based nonprofit operated by the Pennyrile District of the United Methodist Church. According to the mission’s website the nonprofit started by feeding 12 people one meal, one day per week. Interim Director, Mike Pyle says they are now open four days per week, provide multiple meals per day and within the last year they have fed over 19,000 people.
Along with being open to the public from Monday to Thursday, Pyle says they also have showers and washer and dryers available for free use.
The mission relies on donations and Pyle says they are currently in need of canned foods, but will also accept money, clothing and hygiene products.
Along with the mission providing those in need with meals, Pyle says they pack emergency food boxes and do what they can to assist people with transportation. Those interested in lending a hand can drop off donations at the Micah Mission Center back entrance at 209 South Main St. on Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Pyle says the commission is open to everyone who is in need and no qualifications are necessary. More information about the commission is available at micahmission.org.
