A Marshall County School Resource Officer is facing harassment charges following an investigation by Kentucky State Police.
According to state police, troopers were contacted by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department requesting they investigate allegations that had been placed against Deputy James Steven Oakley, involving his position as a School Resource Officer.
It was reported to law enforcement that Deputy Oakley had allegedly sent inappropriate messages to minor female students at Marshall County High School.
That investigation led to a presentation to the Marshall County Grand Jury, who then indicted Oakley on a charge of harassment. The 47-year-old Oakley was served with a summons on Monday.
He has served as an SRO since his hiring with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department in November of 2022. He had previously retired from the department in 2020 after 20 years of prior service.
In a statement, Marshall County Sheriff Matt Hilbrecht says that the department cannot released the findings of any internal investigations involving deputies until the completion of the appeals process. He goes on to say he appreciates the public’s patience and will provide additional information as soon as they can legally do so.
