Man injured, charged in East Fourth Street crash

A man was injured and charged following a single-vehicle wreck at East Fourth Street and Mechanic Street Friday afternoon. 

According to the Hopkinsville Police Department report, investigation revealed that a vehicle had struck a utility pole and a pedestrian crossing sign in the area of East Seventh and Mechanic Street, before the vehicle became disabled and stopped at Belmont and East Ninth.

The driver of the vehicle, 47-year-old Gregory Barnett of Hopkinsville, allegedly had a strong odor of alcohol coming from his person. He was transported to Jennie Stuart Medical Center and from there transferred to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. 

He was cited to court on charges of DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, no registration plates and failure to maintain insurance.
