Man charged with assault in alleged South Campbell Street stabbing

A Hopkinsville man is in custody on a first-degree assault charge after he allegedly stabbed a male victim on South Campbell Street last Thursday.

According to the report from the Hopkinsville Police Department, the victim walked into Jennie Stuart Medical Center to seek treatment for a stab wound and officers responded. Investigation determined that the victim had been walking through the backyard of a residence in the 1100 block of South Campbell Street when he and 39-year-old Michael McGregor of Hopkinsville got into a physical altercation, which is when McGregor allegedly stabbed him.

A witness on the scene told officers she saw McGregor hit the victim with a stick but did not see the stabbing happen.

The victim was treated for a laceration to his upper, left side that medical staff said was serious but not life-threatening.

McGregor was arrested and charged with first-degree assault.
