Man charged with assault for allegedly striking woman with a crowbar

A Hopkinsville man has been arrested after he allegedly struck a woman in the face with a crowbar during an argument early Thursday morning.

According to the Hopkinsville Police Department, officers responded to the Pennyrile Apartments at just before 4 a.m. for reports of an assault. Upon arrival, contact was made with the female victim, who reportedly had a visible injury to the left side of her face, including jaw and lip. The victim’s left jaw area was swollen and she as blooding from the mouth.  

The victim reported that she and 30-year-old Shakuan Bush of Hopkinsville had been in a verbal altercation when he struck her with a crowbar and then threw her into a stove, breaking the glass on the stove. The report states the downstairs of the apartment as in complete disorder due to the physical altercation.

Bush fled the scene before police arrived, but was ultimately discovered hiding in a closet at a residence on East First Street and taken into custody.

He is charged with second-degree assault and first-degree criminal trespassing.
