A man is in custody on numerous charges following a high-speed pursuit in Madisonville that started on I-69 and ended in a fiery crash.
According to the Madisonville Police Department, officers reportedly saw a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on I-69 heading northbound, and it was allegedly quickly changing lanes, forcing other vehicles to brake and swerve to avoid a collision. The pursuit reached speeds of near 100 miles per hour, before the driver exited at the 111-mile-marker.
The vehicular pursuit came to an end with the vehicle struck a light pole and caught fire, flipping over before coming to a stop.
That when the suspect, Ronald McKenzie, reported fled on foot, jumping over a fence. He was eventually taken into custody under threat of a K-9 Unit release.
After being medically cleared at Baptist Health Madisonville, he was lodged in the Hopkins County Detention Center on charges of fleeing or evading police, first-degree wanton endangerment, speeding, resisting arrest and numerous traffic violations.
