In a battle between two of the top boys’ basketball teams in Region 2, the host Lyon County Lyons held off Hopkinsville 76-66 Thursday night.
The Tigers trailed only 31-30 at halftime but were outscored 25-13 in the third quarter and couldn’t close the gap the rest of the way.
Bray Kirk was a thorn in the Tigers’ paw in the second half as he hit three 3-pointers on the way to a 24-point night. Isaac DeFew and Nolan Coffman had 17 and 16 points, respectively, for the Lyons (5-1).
Jonovan Leavell scored 17 points to lead the Tigers, who fell to 4-3 on the season. James Bradley Jr. and Jayon Bass added 13 and 12 points, respectively. Layton Giltner also reached double figures with 10 points.
Hoptown returns to action Saturday against Henry County in the Boys’ Gateway Holiday Classic at Montgomery County.
