Local trio launches a nonprofit to support teens celebrating birthdays, holidays

For Heather Gray, Sabrina Davis and Shawna Major, supporting local youth has been a key part of their careers, and on Monday, the trio announced the launch of the Community Confetti Initiative for local teenagers.

The initiative’s mission is to uplift youth in the community by providing resources to help them celebrate special occasions such as birthdays and holidays. Gray and Davis co-founded the initiative, with Major serving as treasurer.

The idea to create the initiative sparked during a conversation between Gray and Davis. Gray says they were discussing ways to support local youth, and Davis shared that teenagers are often not eligible for youth support services because of their age.

Davis says the initiative is for children between the ages of 12 and 18. For special occasions, she says teenagers often have more expensive gift requests than younger children, which families may not be able to afford.

Gray says they also plan to work with the Hopkinsville Salvation Army to serve children who age out of the programs, such as the Angel Tree Program which supports children 12 years old or younger.

Gray and Davis also co-own The Nook and Cranny in downtown Hopkinsville along with Jason Meacham, and Gray says they opened the store with the intent of wanting to find a way to give back to the community. She says folks can donate items to the consignment shop, and the sale profits can go toward the initiative.

The Community Confetti Initiative is currently operating at The Nook and Cranny located at 115 East 9th Street, and more information about the nonprofit is available at communityconfettiinitiative.org.
