Local students accepted into prestigious Governor’s Scholars program

Several local students have been accepted into the prestigious Governor’s Scholars Program, showcasing their academic strengths.

The Governor’s Scholars started in 1983, and is an intensive, five-week learning experience on one of the three Kentucky college campuses. Students begin the application process in the fall of their junior year, and just recently learned of their acceptances. This highly competitive program recognizes outstanding Kentucky students who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership potential, and a commitment to service.

Starting with Heritage Christian Academy, junior Lexi Lyon was selected to attend, with officials saying, “We are proud of her and know that she will have a wonderful, rewarding experience.”

From Christian County Public Schools, five Christian County High School juniors—Hannah Johnson, Joshua Johnson, Samuel Norwine, Lacey Paige and Sophia Wilson—were selected, along with Foster Jackon of Hopkinsville High School. Ashlea Russell and Ella Colley were selected as alternates.

CCPS District Assessment Coordinator Zachary Hibbs says, “We’re proud to see students from both of our high schools selected for the Governor’s Scholars Program. This is a highly competitive process, and earning a spot is a major accomplishment. These students represent the best of our district, and we’re equally proud of all those who took the initiative to apply.”

From University Heights Academy, juniors Jackson Flynn and Jillian McCourt have been selected to attend the Governor’s Scholars program. Officials say they congratulate their students on this remarkable achievement and look forward to see the impact they will have in school and beyond.
