Local legislators are keeping aware of what’s happening at the federal level of government while they meet in Frankfort for the 2025 session of the Kentucky General Assembly.
Tariffs and freezes on federal spending have been on the minds of most government officials, but legislators are keeping a positive outlook on the ever-changing landscape of federal government. State Senator Craig Richardson says he understands the concerns, but he thinks that this could be a good time for state officials to review spending and see what can be reigned in when it comes to federal dollars.
Representative Walker Thomas says so much changes so frequently that it’s hard to know how to react accordingly, and he believes it a bargaining tool, but he can see why there might be concerns.
Representative Myron Dossett says it considers this a necessary step of the new presidential administration as they work to cut down on government over-spending.
Dossett also joked that Kentucky has their own Department of Government Efficiency in Representative Jason Petrie, who is head of the Appropriations and Revenue Committee, as he works to make sure Kentucky’s budget is staying balanced.
