Liberty Tree planting set to celebrate America’s birthday

It’s a special year for the United States of America, as the country looks to celebrate its 250th birthday, and Christian County is getting the celebration started early on April 13.

According to a news release, the Kentucky Historical Society, the Kentucky Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Kentucky Division of Forestry, will be hosting a Liberty Tree Project planting ceremony on April 13 at 10 a.m. It will take place at Visit Hopkinsville on East Ninth Street and is one of many such ceremonies taking place in all 120 Kentucky counties.

The tulip poplar tree is meant to serve as a living symbol of freedom, resilience and environmental stewardship. Christian County Judge-Executive Jerry Gilliam says, “The Liberty Tree Project allows us to celebrate our nation’s founding while investing in the future of our environment and communities. We are proud to bring this meaningful initiative to Christian County.”

The event is free to attend and open to the public.
