Lady Warriors turn back Hoptown in district volleyball

The Heritage Christian Academy Lady Warriors used some grit and strong serves to defeat Hopkinsville in a District 8 high school volleyball match Thursday night in Tiger Gym.

HCA (1-1, 1-0) jumped out to an early 7-2 lead in the first set only to see the Lady Tigers (0-1, 0-1) come back to take a four-point lead of their own.

However, the gritty Lady Warriors battled back to tie the game at 24-24 and eventually pulled away for a 27-25 win in the first set.

From there it was all HCA as Hopkinsville struggled with the Lady Warriors’ serves in the second set and fell 25-15.

On the night, the Lady Warriors had 14 aces led by Taylor Barbee’s eight.

In the third set, HCA wasted little time and claimed a 25-11 victory to take the match.

Hadlee Hayes had 10 kills and 16 digs to lead the Lady Warriors. Charity Chambers had two kills, 12 assists, and eight digs. Barbee also had an impressive night with five kills and nine digs.

Makenzie McCarty provided four kills, 12 assists, and four digs.

Hopkinsville did not supply WHOP with statistics from the match.

The Lady Warriors are scheduled to play Saturday in the KCAC Tournament. Meanwhile, the Lady Tigers return to action Saturday in the Western Kentucky Smackdown at the Planters Bank-Jennie Stuart Health Sportsplex.
