Lady Tigers, Tigers compete at Apollo Invitational

The Hopkinsville Lady Tigers had an impressive showing Saturday at the Apollo Invitational track meet in Owensboro.

The girls’ 400-meter relay team took gold in a time of 4:29.28. The 100-meter relay team was fourth in 52.96 seconds. The 200-meter and 800-meter relay teams earned top-10 finishes. The 200-meter team ran eighth in 2:03.95 and the 800-meter team was seventh in 11:22.82.

Individually, the Lady Tigers were led by Grace Cansler. The junior spriner finished third in the 100-meter dash in 13:42 seconds and was also third in the 400-meter dash in 1:05.27.

Lauren Mayes picked up a bronze medal in the 3,200-meter run, finishing in 12:07.

Ollia Dixon picked up two top-10 finishes as she was sixth in the 100-meter hurdles (18.85 seconds) and seventh in the 300-mter hurdles (55.43 seconds).

Leilani Esteban was eighth and Leaunna Wilkerson was 10th in the 100-mter hurdles in 20.76 and 21.50, respectively.

The Lady Tigers weren’t finished, as Zoey Thomas earned a sixth-place finish in the Long Jump with a leap of 14-feet, 9-inches.

Catori Wilson was ninth in the Triple Jump with a leap of 30-feet, 8.75-inches.

Meanwhile, Malaih Miller picked up a pair of top-10 finishes in the Discus and Shot Put. Miller was ninth in the Discus with a throw of 83-feet, 6-inches and was ninth in the Shot Put with a toss of 26-feet, 3-inches.

For the Tigers, Keyshun Teal won the boys’ 300-meter hurdles in a time of 43.30 seconds. He also was second in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.80 seconds.

Teammates Elijah Reid took fourth and Kayden Humphrey was 10th in the 110-meter hurdles with times of 16.50 and 18.55, respectively.

Reid and Humphrey also were sixth and eighth, respectively, in the 300-meter hurdles with times of 44.98 seconds and 45.56 seconds.

The Tigers’ relay teams also had a good day.

The 800-meter relay team was fifth with a time of 8:43.15 and the 400-meter relay team took sixth in 4:02.07. The 200-meter relay team finished seventh in 1:37.81 and the 100-meter relay team took ninth in 45.63 seconds.

Marshall County swept the meet winning both the girls’ and boys’ divisions.

In the boys’ meet, the Marshals had 91 points, followed by Henderson County (59) and Caldwell County (53).

In the girls’ meet, the Lady Marshals scored 86 points to beat Owensboro (67) and Daviess County (63.5).
