Lady Tigers down CCHS in possible final soccer meeting

Hopkinsville and Christian County met on the girls’ soccer field for the 56th and final time in the regular season Tuesday night and it was the Lady Tigers who came out victorious, 7-2.

The two schools will consolidate next fall to make the Christian County Tigers, although there is a chance the two teams could meet in next month’s District 8 tournament.

Kaydon Coats had three goals and an assist and Lila Jorgensen added two goals and two assists for Hoptown on Tuesday night.

The two teams played to a scoreless tie for just more than 12 minutes, but Coats’ first goal at 27:45 set off a wild 8 minutes of play that saw the two teams score six goals and Hoptown take a 4-2 lead.

Carliah Hobson tied the match at 1-1 with a goal at 26:26 before the Lady Tigers’ Kaylyn Lynch gave Hoptown a 3-1 advantage at 24:16. Coats’ second goal at 23:16 made it 3-1 Hopkinsville and Jorgensen’s first goal off a corner kick with 21:46 pushed the advantage to 4-1.

Jayleigh Campbell sliced the lead to 4-2 at 19:58, but that would be all the scoring the Lady Colonels would get.

Azaa Enkhtugs made it 5-2 with 14:41 before Jorgensen closed out the first half scoring at the 3:32 mark.

Hoptown added a second half goal for the final score and improve to 6-7 overall and 2-1 in District 8.

Lynch and Kila Cherry each had an assist and Jaleigha McFarland had four saves in goal for the Lady Tigers.

Christian County, which had 15 saves in goal by Neziyah Bell, fell to 3-8-1 overall and 0-1 in district play.

The Lady Tigers return to action Thursday night at Franklin-Simpson and the Lady Colonels will play host to University Heights Academy Thursday night in a District 8 match at 5:30 p.m.
