Hopkinsville High School completed its final swim meet in school history on Saturday as the Lady Tigers’ competed in the Section 1 Swim Meet at Bowling Green High School.
Senior Grace Cansler finished fourth place in the 100-yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:14.12. It was the best finish of the day for the Lady Tigers.
Junior Lily Johnston took eighth place in the 100-yard Butterfly in 1:09.14. Johnston also was 13th in the 200-yard I.M. with a time of 2:37.62.
Junior Kaley Bangart finished 14th in the 500-yard Freestyle event in a time of 6:33.13. Junior Saralynn Major was 15th in the 200-yard Freestyle with a time of 2:23.38.
The Lady Tigers’ relay teams were led by the 200-yard Medley Relay that took ninth place. The team included Brilyn Merrick, Cansler, Johnston, and Major and finished in 2:11.22.
The 200-yard Freestyle Relay team of Major, Kaley Bangart, Cansler and Johnston finished 10th in 1:58.74.
The last Hopkinsville team to dive into the pool in competition was the 400-yard Freestyle Relay team of Kaydon Coats, Merrick, Evelyn Bangart, and Kaley Bangart. The Lady Tigers took 12th in a time of 4:33.33.
The final season of Hopkinsville High School swimming puts a cap on a proud program that won one team state title in 1969 and had numerous individual state champions over the year.
In the last season, Cansler earned the Region 1 Female Swimmer of the Year and Head Coach Keith Marquess was named Region 1 Female Coach of the Year.
