The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet announced that the intersection of KY 176 and Merle Travis Highway has temporarily reopened in Muhlenberg County following phase one of a project reconfiguring the intersection.
The intersection was closed a couple of weeks ago, to allow road crews to remove brush from the area and prepare for phase two of the project which will start in the spring. The goal of the project is to turn the existing “Y” intersection into a “T” intersection to improve safety and visibility.
Once phase two begins, the cabinet says a temporary roadway will be constructed using Ebenezer Road. KY 176 will be closed east of the intersection and the right lane of Merle Travis Highway will be blocked. Temporary traffic lights will also be installed to allow traffic to alternate in the left lane of the highway.
Then in phase three of the project, KY 176 will be closed west of the intersection.
