Kiwanis Club of Hopkinsville gearing up for Warm the Children campaign

As the temperatures have become downright icy—reminding us that winter is indeed coming—it’s time to help raise funds for the Warm the Children campaign.

Warm the Children is hosted by the Kiwanis club of Hopkinsville, and is designed to help outfit local children in need with warm winter clothing, from coats to hats to shoes, whatever that child might need. Kiwanian Nikki Chambers helms that effort now, with the passing of founder Willie Renshaw, and she and Kiwanis President Amy Jones say this is the 30th year for the program—so they’re eager to make it a big one.

The Kiwanis Club partners with the Walmart on Clinic Drive for this endeavor, and kids go with a Kiwanian and their families to shop for their items, meaning they get to pick their own clothes.

Chambers says they’re aiming high this year, hoping to raise $30,000 to help celebrate their 30th milestone. The club receives help from the Hopkinsville Salvation Army, Christian County Public School System and family resource centers when it comes to choosing children in the community who will benefit from the initiative.
