A Columbia, Tennessee man was arraigned on a murder charge in Christian Circuit Court Wednesday morning.
Brian Kerr Jr. is charged with first-degree murder in the fatal shooting death of 37-year-old Dmytro Sebeniuk of Des Plaines, Illinois that happened on December 28 at the Pilot Travel Center off of Pembroke-Oak Grove Road. He appeared in front of Circuit Judge John Atkins alongside his attorney, Wesley Boyarski, who entered a not-guilty plea on his behalf.
Commonwealth’s Attorney Maureen Leamy says there is a significant amount of evidence so far in this case, and her office is working on getting it all to the defense—and it’s a case that is eligible for the death penalty.
The parties will meet again on June 11 for a pretrial conference. Kerr is also charged with possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, possession of heroin and possession of marijuana.
Kerr is accused of shooting Sebeniuk before stealing his car and driving it to Humphreys County, Tennessee. Kerr was arrested by Illinois State Police during a pursuit and is also wanted for multiple charges out of Maury and Humphreys Counties.
