As another round of winter weather approaches Christian County early Friday morning, the Kentucky Department of Agriculture is offering some tips on keeping animals safe.

According to officials, you can help ensure your animals are safe and well-cared for as temperature drops with these tips—maintain a smooth operation during the harsh weather by doing regular check-ins on livestock.

You can take precautionary measures such as feeding extra hay and grain, clearing ice buildup on waterers and you can use tank heaters. If possible, move your animals indoors or add extra bedding for additional insulations.

Make sure animals have access to some type of shelter, such as a windbreak for livestock, and they should have access to fresh, unfrozen water at all times.
