Christian County escaped too much damage from Wednesday’s storms, with some damage reported in the Greenville Road area and isolated golf ball sized hail causing damage in the Lafayette area, but Christian County Judge-Executive Jerry Gilliam says he’s grateful things weren’t worse.
Areas to our south and our north were hammered with severe storms and tornadoes, with two lives lost in Tennessee—Judge Gilliam says it really highlights how important being prepared for severe weather is, and the county is looking to be even more so. He says they’re in the beginning stages of the plan to build storm shelters across the county and they’re happy to have that ball rolling.
He says they will be strategically located where most people should be able to get to them and take shelter fairly quickly.
Judge Gilliam will be present is proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year Friday morning at 9 a.m. at the Christian County Courthouse and he says he feels confident in the budget making process and the spending plan they’ve come up with.
He says public safety makes up a good chunk of the budget across multiple entities, now including the Christian County Ambulance Service.
