Jones delivers game-winner for UHA over Apollo

University Heights Academy opened up its 2026 high school baseball season on Thursday at home with a 9-8 victory over Apollo.

The 16th-ranked Blazers got a two-run, walk-off single by Aiden Jones to get the win.

Hayden Hunt had four hits to lead the Blazers at the plate. AJ Hogart, Jackson Flynn, and Jones each collected a pair of hits.

Bryson Turner earned the pitching win in relief.

The Blazers led 2-1 entering the fourth inning, but the Eagles plated six runs to take a 7-2 advantage.

UHA countered with three runs in the bottom of the frame to narrow the gap to 7-5.

However, Apollo added a run in the top of the fifth for an 8-5 advantage.

The Blazers got a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth using two hits and an error. Flynn’s double made it 8-7.

Then in the seventh, Courtland Gibson walked with one out. Hayden Hunt grounded out and moved Gibson to second base. Hogart and Cadence Gibson were intentionally walked before Jones delivered the game-winning hit.
