HWEA talks water taste and smell, efforts to freshen it

The Hopkinsville Water Environment Authority is putting out an alert about possible changes in the taste and smell of drinking water locally.

In a social media post, HWEA says there is a seasonal change at their water source—Lake Barkley—and they are actively flushing fire hydrants in the water distribution system in an attempt to fresh the water and improve taste.

Officials say the water, although experiencing a change in taste or smell to some, is safe to drink and meets all State and Federal drinking water regulations.
