Jeffers’ Bend Environmental Center is gearing up for the return of their Hummingbird Festival, set for August 22 at the center located on Metcalfe Lane in Hopkinsville.
This is a free event, and Organizer Diane Croney-Turner says it’s always a good time. She says there will be all kinds of hummingbird related festivities taking place, including live demonstrations of ‘banding’.
‘Banding’ is when a professional attaches a tiny anklet to the foot of the bird and allows researchers to document the life of our tiniest avians.
That’s not all that’s taking place that day, as Croney-Turner says along with a pollinator plant sale, a poster contest, informational booths and much more.
The festivities will take place on August 22 from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m.
The hummingbirds are fueling up for the long flight back south during the fall and winter months, but there’s still time to see the little birds for yourself at Jeffers’ Bend Environmental Center.
