Hoptown’s Davis signs with Motlow State

Hopkinsville High School guard Alicia Davis may not have had a straight path to her dream of playing college basketball, but the senior guard didn’t let a few obstacles stand in her way.

The Lady Tigers’ 5-foot-3 guard signed with Motlow State Community College out of Tullahoma, Tenn., Wednesday morning during in a ceremony in Tiger Gym.

Davis said she was grateful for the chance to extend her basketball career in college.

Davis started her high school career at University Heights Academy. As a sophomore she averaged 19 points a game for the Lady Blazers.

However, the school discontinued its girls’ basketball program following her sophomore year and Davis said she was faced with a tough choice. Davis decided her best option was transferring to Hopkinsville.

Hopkinsville’s star guard led the Lady Tigers in scoring at 13.7 points per game this season. She also connected on 16 of 52 three-pointers and was third on the team in rebounding at 5.2 per game.

Lady Tigers’ coach Keith Leslie said Davis was a pleasure to coach.

Davis said she chose Motlow State over several other junior colleges including Rend Lake (Ill.) and Volunteer State (Tenn.)

Motlow State Head Coach Kareem Kenney made the trip to Hopkinsville Wednesday for the signing and said he was excited to get a player like Davis.

Davis, who has a 3.86 GPA said she plans to major in pre-athletic training and physical therapy. She hopes to coach basketball after college graduation.

She finished her high school career with 1,556 points and was named to the All-District and All-Region teams her senior season.
