The Hopkinsville Tigers open the high school football season tonight in Bowling Green when they take on the Class 5-A Greenwood Gators.
The Tigers are coached by Dustin Lopez, who is in his first season as head coach after serving as the team’s defensive coordinator for several seasons.
Hopkinsville, which 1-9 last year, returns most of its offensive line and several key playmakers including senior Treston Kay and senior Aiden King.
Meanwhile, Greenwood is coming off a 7-4 record a year ago. Junior offensive lineman Griffin Howard and senior defensive back Jaxson Howell are considered two of the top players in the Class 5-A, District 2.
Lopez said he will have to keep the game plan simple the first week for his squad.
Tonight’s game will follow the Marion County-Allen County Scottsville game and is scheduled to kick off at 8:30 p.m.
