Hoptown Marathon funds benefit Pennyrile Dyslexia Association

Funds generated by Hoptown Half-Marathon and 5K annually go toward a local nonprofit and on Wednesday Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation presented a large donation to the Dyslexia Association of the Pennyrile.

The association was founded in 1970 and focuses on serving individuals with dyslexia and other learning disabilities. Association Executive Director, Vicky Jones says they provide dyslexia screening services, act as lay advocates for parents of dyslexia students and offer tutoring.

The check presented to the association was for $6,000 and Jones says she was honored to receive it. She says the funding will go toward their existing services and new partnership programs with Challenge House and the Christian County Public School System.

Parks and Recreation then presented checks for their water station winners. The Hopkinsville-Christian County Jaycees received first place, Planters Bank received second place and the Hopkinsville Rotary Club received third place for their half marathon water stations.

Empowered Minds was also awarded for their 5K water station.
