Hoptown gets balanced scoring to run past Maroons

The Hopkinsville Tigers followed up their impressive win over Christian County Friday night with a blowout victory over visiting Madisonville-North Hopkins, 85-59, Saturday.

The Tigers improved to 10-7 on the season behind the play of Jayon Bass and Jonovan Leavell, who scored 20 and 17 points, respectively.

Hoptown had balanced scoring on the night as Tashaun Quarles added 15 points and James Bradley Jr. also had 12 in the game.

Hopkinsville led 17-12 after one quarter, but extended the lead to 37-24 at the break.

Hoptown, which broke a three-game losing streak to the Maroons, outscored Madisonville 48-35 in the second half to pull away for the victory.

Lake Sumner led the Maroons (2-13) with 18 points.

The Tigers also won the JV contest 39-27.

Hopkinsville is back in action Tuesday night at home against Hopkins County Central. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. with airtime at 7:15 p.m. on Newsradio 99.3 FM and 1230 AM WHOP.
