Hoptown, County set for football battle

All the pre-game hype is over. It’s time to play football.

Hopkinsville and Christian County meet tonight for the 58th time in football at the Stadium of Champions. The winner gets “Bragging Rights” for a year.

The Colonels are coming off a bye week and are 0-1 on the season. Hopkinsville is 0-2 and haven’t won since last September, a streak of five games.

Christian County, which won last year 22-20, leads the all-time series 29-28 on the field. Because of a forfeit by Hopkinsville in 1997, the Colonels officially lead the series 30-27.

First-year Colonels Head Coach Ethan Atchley said once the ball is kicked off tonight, records and history don’t mean a thing.

Christian County managed only 85 yards of offense against Warren East two weeks ago. But Hopkinsville first-year Head Coach Dustin Lopez said the Colonels have playmakers capable of causing problems for his squad.

The Tigers are led on offense by quarterback Aiden King, who has thrown for 314 yards and six touchdowns this season. Artavius Moses has run for 100 yards and two scores on 17 carries and Treston Kay has caught nine passes for 135 yards and four scores.

Gates will open at 6 p.m. for the game and attendees must enter the side of the stadium they plan to sit. Hopkinsville will be on the home side.

Tickets are available online only and can be pre-purchased through GoFan at https://gofan.co/event/1560784?schoolld=KY8632

The 1984 Hopkinsville High School Class 3-A state runner-up team will be honored at halftime of the game tonight.

The Hopkinsville broadcast can be heard at 6:30 p.m. on Newsradio 99.3 FM and 1230 AM WHOP. The Christian County broadcast will air at 6:30 p.m. on 95.3 The Farm.
