Hoptown athletes compete at State 2-A track meet

The Hopkinsville High School track team competed in the KHSAA Class 2-A State Track and Field Meet on Friday.

The Tigers’ Keyshun Teal reached the podium with a seventh-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.87 seconds. Teammate Elijah Reid was 20th in the race with a time of 19.03.

Meanwhile, Teal finished 11th in the 300-meter hurdles in 42.60 seconds and Savior Davis was 18th in the 800-meter run in 2:28.19.

The Tigers’ relay teams competed with the 3,200-meter team of Tyson Cavinder, Davis, Carlo Jones, and LaMareon Jeffers earning an 11th-placef inish in 9:06.06.

The 800-meter relay team of Teal, Treston Kay, James Bradley Jr., and Jaylen Ray was 16th in 1:36.65 and the 400-meter relay team of Kay, Willie Ennels, Teal and Bradley were 18th in 45.81 seconds.

Hopkinsville finished 35th out of 74 teams in the Class 2-A meet.

Meanwhile, Lauren Mayes and Alexis Herrera-Lovato earned the top finishes for the Lady Tigers as both took 12th place in their respective events.

Mayes ran the 3,200-meter run in 12:36.65 and Herrera-Lovato completed the 800-meter run in 2:36.91.

Grace Cansler was 17th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:05.01.

The Lady Tigers’ 800-meter relay team of Kaniya Jackson Grundy, Alicia Davis, Cansler and A’Ireona Spikes took 13th with a time of 1:55.19 and the 1,600-meter relay team of Cansler, Jackson Grundy, Davis, and Herrera-Lovato was 13th in 4:31.37.
