Hoppers walk-off Railroaders, still chasing Henderson

The Hoptown Hoppers kept pace with the Henderson Flash with a 5-4 walk-off win over Fulton Monday night at Tiger Field.

Brennen Gibson tripled with one out in the bottom of the ninth and scored on a wild pitch to improve Hoptown to 21-9 on the season.

Jack Haag pitched 1 1/3 innings to get the win.

Gibson finished 2-for-4 with three runs scored. Reed Hayes went 2-for-3 with an RBI for Hoptown, which will play at Madisonville tonight.

Fulton scored a run in the top of the first inning but the Hoppers responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame.

Gibson singled and scored on an error. Reed Hayes had a run-scoring single.

The Hoppers pushed their lead to 4-1 in the fourth inning as Myles Denton had a single that scored Jackson Wilson and Gibson.

However, the Railroaders (10-23) scored one to cut the lead in half. In the top of the eighth inning, Fulton tied the game with a pair of hits and two walks. Haag entered and induced a bases-loaded double play to end the threat.

Meanwhile, Henderson remained a game-and-a-half ahead of the Hoppers for first place in the Ohio Valley League with a 12-2 win over visiting Full Count. The Flash will visit Hoptown Wednesday for a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m. Airtime is at 4:45 p.m. on 95.3 The Farm and 953thefarm.com.
