Summer baseball in Hopkinsville is only about three weeks away as the Hoptown Hoppers take aim at another Ohio Valley League championship this season.
Hoppers Team President Charlie Henderson visited with WHOP on Thursday and said the season gets underway three weeks from tonight.
Players will begin arriving in Hopkinsville between May 27-29. There are five players returning to the Hoppers from last season and Henderson says there are two local players on this year’s roster.
Henderson said enough host families have been secured for the players already signed, but he will need a few more as the team finalizes its roster.
Games will be played this summer at Christian County High School’s Colonel Field.
Henderson said another game sponsor is needed and other meal sponsors are needed to help feed the team after games.
Opening night is scheduled for May 31 with the Hoppers traveling to Henderson to take on the defending league champions. The first home game is scheduled for June 2 and will be a “White Out” with fans encouraged to wear white.
In addition, the Kids Camp will be from 9 a.m. until noon June 9-11 at Colonel Field. The camp is open to youths ages 5-12. Online registration is available at the team’s website at hoptownhoppers.org.
