Hoppers fall to Fulton, head to Madisonville tonight

For seven innings against the Fulton Railroaders on Monday night, it appeared the Hoptown Hoppers were going to continue their hot streak. But they play nine innings.

Fulton rallied in its final two at-bats to take down the Hoppers 6-2 at Christian County High School.

Hoptown pitcher Heath Henley threw one-hit ball for seven innings. The right-hander struck out struck out five and walked six in the game. After walking Fulton’s David Guldin to lead off the eighth, Henley’s night was done.

Chase Singleton entered and got Austin Phillips to hit into a fielder’s choice. However, the throw to first base was errant. With one out, Singleton walked three of the next four batters and Jacob Lott had a RBI single to draw the Railroaders to within 2-1.

Gabe Eddington relieved Singleton and Dillon Keuhl greeted him with a bases-clearing double to give Fulton a 4-2 advantage.

The Railroaders added two more runs in the top of the ninth using three hits and a walk.

Hoptown (6-12) took a 1-0 lead in the second inning as Myles Denton walked and moved to second on a passed ball. He would eventually score when Aidon Butts’ ground ball was misplayed.

The Hoppers added to the lead in the bottom of the third as Denton’s sacrifice fly scored JJ Thompson. However, the Hoppers left the bases loaded.

Hoptown also left the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth without scoring.

The Hoppers were led by Dalyn Hamilton and Evan Cardwell, who each had a pair of hits. Denton added a double and a RBI.

The Hoppers return to action tonight against Madisonville in a game that was announced Monday night. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
