Hopkinsville’s own Amy Watson to retire from News Channel 5 Oct. 25

Hopkinsville’s own Amy Watson has announced that she will retire from News Channel 5 in Nashville, following a lengthy, luminous career there.

Watson made the announcement on NewsChannel 5 This Morning Thursday, saying it comes with bittersweet feelings, but mostly gratitude, as she has been with News Channel 5 for nearly 20 years and has had a career in journalism for 35 years.

She said the commute and the early mornings have sometimes been a struggle, but her faithful listeners and her communities, both Hopkinsville and Nashville, have made it worth it.

Watson says she plans to spend a lot time with her grandchildren, but she will very much miss the people she has worked with and come to know over the years.

Her last day with News Channel 5 will be October 25. While working in Nashville, Watson has never forgotten her home in Hopkinsville, covering events such as tornadoes downtown, the 2017 Total Solar Eclipse and many other community events and programs.

And before that, she worked with TV43 in Hopkinsville, as a reporter and co-host of the Amy and Amy Show.
