Hopkinsville Salvation Army to keep up heat relief efforts during brutal heat-wave

The Hopkinsville Salvation Army is extending their heat relief efforts as extreme temperatures continue to beat down on the region this week.

According to a news release, with temperatures touching 100 degrees the rest of the work week, the Salvation Army will keep the shelter located at 304 East Seventh Street open 24-hours a day for at least the next seven days. In addition to providing overnight accommodations, The Salvation Army has opened a daytime cooling center from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. This center offers a safe, air-conditioned environment for residents who may not have access to air conditioning in their homes, as well as unhoused individuals.

They will also be providing food and cold beverages to shelter residents and those using the cooling center.

The Salvation Army is calling on the community for support to sustain these vital heat relief efforts. Donations are urgently needed, especially cases of bottled water, to help keep everyone cool and hydrated. Financial contributions are also welcomed and can be made online at SalvationArmyHopkinsville.org or by mailing a check to The Salvation Army, PO Box 427, Hopkinsville, KY 42241.
