After trailing slightly behind most of the week, the Hopkinsville Rotary Club and the community smashed it out of the park Friday and Saturday night’s, breaking fundraising records for the 75th Rotary Radio Auction.
After six days of auction, the total finished up at $634,383.98, which not only surpassed last year’s auction total of $560,074.48, but is the new fundraising record to beat heading forward. The Hopkinsville Rotary Club easily reclaimed the bragging rights of being one of the largest, most-successful auctions in Rotary International.
Wrapping up the final night Saturday, Auction Chair Landan Stallons was blown away by the community support and generosity he saw throughout the week.
He says he was incredibly grateful to the community, the sponsors, his family, those who donated time, money or items, and especially the hard work of the Rotarians who fight to put this auction on each year.
The club handed out three more community grants between Friday and Saturday, including to the Dyslexia Association of the Pennyrile, the Joy Closet’s Hope House initiative and, last but not least, to the Christian County Literacy Council.
To break down the details, over the course of the week, 783 items were sold on the auction block, raising $133,860, the Diner and Sweet Shop raised $42,067.08 and the Hour and Goat Clubs brought in a whopping $458,456.90.
Folks are reminded to go pick up their auction items from the War Memorial Building as soon as you can, because while Rotarians might get the rest of the weekend for a rest, thoughts are undoubtedly already turning towards the 76th Auction, and how they can keep breaking records.
