Hopkinsville Police arrested two people on Friday following a vehicle stop for reportedly trafficking fentanyl.
According to a report from police, officers performed a traffic stop on a car traveling on the Pennyrile Parkway for having an expired license plate. Thirty-six-year-old Julia Cunningham of Cadiz and 56-year-old John Michael Jones of Hopkinsville were passengers in the car.
The occupants were removed from the vehicle so that a K-9 could perform a free air sniff.
Jones reportedly had an active bench warrant at the time and a bag of fentanyl reportedly fell out of his pants as officers placed him under arrest.
Then officers reportedly found aluminum foil and a straw in Cunningham’s seat and a digital scale in her purse. As she was being booked in the Christian County Jail, law enforcement reportedly found more fentanyl on Cunningham’s person following an x-ray.
Jones was charged with trafficking in a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and was arrested on bench warrant. Cunningham was charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, trafficking in a controlled substance, tampering with physical evidence and first-degree promoting contraband.
