Summer is in full swing, with hot summer nights and festivals taking place, so Hopkinsville is gearing up for its signature event, summer salute on September 11 and 12.
This will be the 10th year for the downtown event, and parks and recreation program coordinator JR Davie says they’re already maxed out on food vendors, have 25 merchandise vendors and more activities planned than they could list.
Coordinator Jacob Gibson says they’ll have two days of live musical acts, starting Friday night at the stage in front of the Christian County Justice Center, and Saturday brings country music artist Chris Jansen as the headline act.
He had several big hits in the country music scene, and while he’s currently on tour, Gibson says the best place to view him will be at the summer salute—for free.
Gibson says they also intend to have special focus on the anniversary of 9/11 that weekend, taking the time to honor those who lost their lives in that devastating attack on the world trade centers.
