As he continues to work on his “Growing Home” initiative, Hopkinsville Mayor J.R. Knight is focusing on downtown Hopkinsville, with efforts underway to bring people to that area.
One such effort is the establishment of the Downtown Entertainment District, which stretches from East 11th Street, down South Main and South Virginia Streets and over to East Fifth Street. Speaking with WHOP recently, Mayor Knight explains that it will allow visitors the chance to visit the numerous small businesses in that area home while maintaining their beverage throughout the district.
He says there’s so much more to see and do in that area than some realize, and they home the Entertainment District will highlight those businesses. The mayor also says there are currently discussions underway about Founders Square, and how he would like to see something happening there every weekend.
If you’re wanting to keep up-to-date on what’s happening not just downtown, but across the city, you can check out the City of Hopkinsville’s “Growing Home” webpage to help keep track.
Mayor Knight says the core tenets of his Growing Home initiative are public safety, economic development, city cleanliness and staff support.
