The Mayor of Hopkinsville is looking to work on making a budget over the next few weeks, and he says a priority for him will be upkeep.
The city hosted a community forum recently where they took suggestions and comments from citizens about what projects or agencies they would like to see receiving funding in a budget for the next fiscal year. Speaking with WHOP Friday morning, Mayor Knight says they received a lot of good feedback that City Council will take forward with them in making a budget—and he says council will play a bigger role than they have in years past.
He says he’s more focused on upkeep this year, such as renovations to existing properties that need it, rather than on building new.
The mayor says the biggest expenditure for the City of Hopkinsville is easily the payroll, and its one of many things they absolutely have to fund. So, while they want to help everyone who’s looking for funding, they can’t feasibly do them all.
Mayor Knight says work is happening on West Seventh Street in an ongoing effort to widen one of Hopkinsville’s busiest roads, which has resulted in some traffic congestion. Crews are currently working to relocate utility lines, to make way for future dirt and road work.
