Hopkinsville man facing assault charges

A Hopkinsville man is facing assault charges after he allegedly attacked people with a hammer Friday night at a location on Bill Bryan Boulevard.

According to the Hopkinsville police report, officers responded to an industry on Bill Bryan just before 10 p.m. for reports that a male suspect was hitting someone with a hammer. Upon arrival, it was determined the suspect had fled the scene, and a K-9 officer was able to track to the area he was last seen.

Twenty-five-year-old Keonte Lamar was reportedly found hiding inside a container in front of the factory and was taken into custody.

Investigation determined that Lamar and a supervisor had been in a verbal dispute that turned physical when the supervisor attempted to call security. Lamar allegedly punched him in the face and ripped off his radio.

Then, Lamar allegedly grabbed a rubber mallet and began chasing several employees before striking a female victim in the head with the mallet before kicking her.

He was charged with second-degree assault and fourth-degree assault.
