Hopkinsville High School Honors Former Long Time Head Football Coach Craig Clayton

Hopkinsville High School recognized former Head Football Coach Craig Clayton during halftime of the Tigers game against The Mayfield Cardinals at The Stadium of Champions Friday night.

Coach Clayton came to Hopkinsville from Todd Co. Central after serving as head coach of the Rebels for two seasons.

Coach Clayton would serve as Head Coach of the Tigers from 1986 until 2004. After several years coaching in Tennesse at Franklin High School and Hillsboro High School he would return to Hopkinsville High School in 2017 and got his 300th win in 2021. His overall win record as a head coach is 307. He is the winningest head coach in the school’s history with a record of 195 and 99. During his time as a head coach, he had two undefeated regular seasons, four state championship appearances, ten semi-state appearances and sixteen regional championship appearances. He was AP Coach of the year in 1995, and class 3A Coach of the year in 1996.

Today Coach Clayton is the Offense Coordinator for first year Tiger Head Coach Dustin Lopez.
