In an attempt to re-start its softball program, Hopkinsville High School announced the hiring of Anthony “First Sarge” Holloway Thursday morning as its coach for the school’s final season in 2026.
Holloway previously served as a Lady Tigers’ assistant coach under Eddie Underwood for several seasons before taking over as varsity coach prior to the 2012 season. He coached the team from 2012-2017 and compiled a 45-121-2 record.
Holloway said he enjoyed coaching softball and wanted to make sure that Hopkinsville had a team in its final year of existence.
Hopkinsville and Christian County will consolidate into the Christian County Tigers for the 2026-27 school year.
Last season, the program did not have enough interest among the students in order to field a team. However, Holloway said 24 athletes have signed up from the middle school and high school.
He said he understands that missing the last season will put the program behind and he is facing a challenge in 2026.
Hopkinsville High School Athletic Director Jacob Ezell said Holloway was the perfect choice for the program.
“Coach Holloway brings experience, leadership, and heart to the program,” he said. “There’s no better person to lead this team through such a meaningful final season. I’m confident he’ll help our student-athletes close out the HHS chapter with pride and purpose.”
Holloway also served as the school’s JROTC instructor until his retirement in 2024.
