The Hopkinsville Middle School football team is getting a rare opportunity to begin its 2026 season.
Tigers’ Head Coach JR Davie was a guest on the Early Bird Show on Thursday morning and said the Tigers will be playing in a football jamboree at Nissan Stadium in Nashville on Aug. 2 against Providence Middle School from Clarksville.Â
Davie said the Tigers were already scheduled to play Providence, but that Mustangs are part of the jamboree and called to try and change their scrimmage with Hoptown. From there, things fell into place for the Tigers.Â
While Christian County and Hopkinsville High Schools have consolidated into the Christian County Tigers beginning this fall, Davie said both Christian County and Hopkinsville middle schools continue to field their own respective football teams.
He said the rivalry is alive at the middle school level, although they eventually all will be teammates in high school.
HMS football will be the host of a 7-on-7 passing tournament July 11 at the Hopkinsville High School practice field behind Indian Hills Elementary School. Other teams competing in the event include Caldwell County, Todd County, Browning Springs, Moss, Calloway County, and Christian County.
Meanwhile, CCMS football player Jordan Santiago-Bussell will be representing the Colonels in the Kentucky Future Stars eighth-grade game against Tennessee’s stars. It is the Grand Finale game June 20 at the University of Louisville’s L&N Cardinal Stadium.
Santiago-Bussell is a 6-foot, 150-pound wide receiver.
