HFD members share Fire Station 5 construction update

Construction continues on the Hopkinsville Fire Department’s fifth fire house and Fire and EMS Captain Payton Rogers and Deputy Fire Marshal Nathan Stewart appeared on WHOP to spotlight the progress.

In November 2024 a groundbreaking ceremony was hosted for Fire Station 5 at 101 Walton Way in southern Christian County. The station is being constructed out of a preexisting building. Rogers says work continues to transform the building’s interior and construction has started on the truck bays. The station is set to be staffed and running by October.

Stewart says the location of the new firehouse will be vital to covering southern Christian County. Currently, Firehouse 4 along Eagle Way Bypass is the closest to Interstate 24 which he calls a quite a distance, but now they will soon be able to respond a lot faster to calls of services in southern parts of the county.

The fire department is among the top five busiest departments in the state. In April, Rogers says they had over 950 EMS runs and over 300 firetruck runs and they are on track to possibly have another record year of service runs.

In 2024, the department had around 4,000 firetruck runs and over 15,000 EMS runs.

Then turning toward community events, the department will be at Touch-A-Truck at Debow Park from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Kids will be able to explore police cars, fire trucks, ambulances, construction vehicles, garbage trucks, agriculture equipment, care cars, rescue vehicles, an Air Evac Helicopter and more.

More information concerning events the department is a part of or hosting is available at Hopkinsville Fire/EMS on Facebook.
