This week’s Jennie Stuart Orthopedic – Michael Venable State Farm is Jason Leek.
Jason is a junior at Heritage Christian Academy and a member of the boys’ basketball team.
Last week, Leek led his team to a 2-1 record averaging 27.6 points per game over the span of the three games.
His biggest performance came at home in HCA’s first district game of the season where he scored 37 points in a 70-59 win.
On the season, Leek averages 25 points and five rebounds a game while the Warriors currently have a 4-3 record.
As far as his basketball beginnings, Jason explained how watching his brother on the court inspired him to try out the sport.
Often times, when younger kids try different they find themselves losing interest or finding a new hobby or sport.
For Leek however, he suck with it due to the love of basketball that was created and the friendships that were made.
When it comes to his offseason improvement, Jason credits late night gym sessions and college camps as big factors.
When asked about his 37-point performance, Jason explained that he had no idea how much he had, and that he was locked in on getting the win.
When watching Leek on the court if you blink, you might miss him sitting on the bench, as he logs an abundance of minutes night in and night out.
Leek credits his head coach Matt McGowan for helping him improve his stamina on the court.
Matt McGowan shared his thoughts on Jason and what he’s noticed from him in the past couple of years coaching him.
When asked about his expectations of Leek, McGowan explained that he is certain that Jason is capable of playing at the next level, but what level that is depends on how he handles some things.
