It didn’t take long for University Heights Academy to find its next head baseball coach.
On Friday afternoon, only three days after Scott Gentry stepped down for family and a job opportunity, UHA Athletics Director Taylor Sparks told members of the media and the baseball team that Blazers’ assistant coach Michael Crow has been promoted to head coach.
Sparks said he spoke with several people affiliated with the program and he felt it was best for continuity to promote Crow to the head coaching position.
Crow began coaching at Hopkinsville Middle School under former Tigers’ coach Greg Perry. Crow has been on the UHA coaching staff since 2017 and said he was excited about the opportunity to be the Blazers’ head coach.
Gentry coached the Blazers to a 60-34 record with two District 8 championships and two Region 2 title game appearances in three seasons. UHA is considered one of the favorites to win the Region 2 championship next spring. They return eight starters, including All-Region players Hayden Hunt, Jaiden Miles, and Cadence Gibson. Hunt, a pitcher/shortstop, has committed to Indiana State University.
Crow said he welcomes the pressure that comes with coaching a team with this amount of talent.
Crow thanked Gentry, former UHA coach Chris Hamby, the players, parents, and school administration for the opportunities he has been given with the Blazers. Crow also thanked his wife and family for supporting him during his coaching career.
