HCA stuns Webster to reach Region 2 volleyball finals

Heritage Christian Academy will play for its second straight Region 2 Volleyball Tournament title tonight when the Lady Warriors take on Henderson County in Morton’s Gap.

The Lady Warriors stunned Webster County 3-1 in Wednesday night’s second semifinal contest at Hopkins County Central High School.

HCA jumped out to early lead and held off the Lady Trojans 25-23 in the first set. The second set was all Lady Warriors as they dominated the entire way before taking the set 25-13.

However, behind the play of Region 2 Player of the Year Chloe Soukup, Webster came back to force a fourth set by taking the third set 25-14.

The two teams battled back-and-forth as the tension grew. Finally, HCA was able to take the fourth set 28-26 and win the match.

Hadlee Hayes and Bralee Fowler each had 11 kills to power HCA, which improves to 17-18 on the season. Makenzie McCarty had four kills and 29 assists and Hayes added 23 digs. Fowler also had three aces.

Allie Craft had another strong defensive game with 18 digs and Charity Chambers had a strong service game with four aces.

Taylor Barbee also had five kills for HCA, which fell to the Lady Trojans 2-1 in an earlier meeting this season.

Henderson County advanced to the regional finals with a thrilling come-from-behind 3-2 victory over Christian County in the first semifinal.

HCA won its first Region 2 Volleyball Tournament title last year by beating Union County.
